We recently had the pleasure of sailing on Utopia of the Seas for a 4-day Caribbean cruise, and it was an experience packed with fun, excitement, and some surprises. As seasoned cruisers, we love to break down what we loved and what we think could be improved. If you’re considering a trip on Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas, this guide will help you know what to expect!
What We Loved ❤️
1. Incredible Production Shows 🎭
One of the absolute highlights of Utopia of the Seas was the entertainment. Royal Caribbean always delivers on spectacular shows, but we were especially impressed this time around.
The AquaTheater Show: This high-diving, acrobatic, water-filled spectacle was nothing short of mesmerizing. The athleticism of the performers, combined with an 80s-themed backdrop, created an unforgettable experience.
The Ice Skating Show: Watching skilled skaters perform breathtaking routines while balancing on a moving ship is something special. The production level was top-notch!
The Main Theater Production: While it wasn’t a Broadway show, the performers gave it their all, and it was one of the best Oasis-class performances we’ve seen.
We’d even go so far as to say this was the best entertainment lineup we’ve experienced on an Oasis-class ship. Definitely a must-see if you’re sailing on Utopia! 🎉
2. Energetic and Lively Atmosphere 
The vibe on this ship was different, in a fun and exciting way. Utopia of the Seas promotes a party-style weekend getaway, and while we didn’t partake in the non-stop pool deck DJ sessions, it was refreshing to see so many people letting loose and having fun.
Whether you prefer to dance the night away or just people-watch while sipping a cocktail, the ship had a contagious energy that made every deck feel alive.
3. The Crown Lounge: A Peaceful Escape 
We’ve been fortunate enough to cruise enough to reach Diamond Plus status, so we always check out the Crown Lounge, and on this trip, it was one of our favorite hidden gems.
Spacious and quiet, even though the ship itself was a lively party vessel.
Great drink service with attentive staff.
Constantly refreshed snacks and food options.
If you’re looking for a calm escape on a party-filled ship, this is the place to be.
4. Super Fast Wi-Fi 
Royal Caribbean has really stepped up its Wi-Fi game on newer ships, and Utopia of the Seas was no exception. Each room had its own Wi-Fi hotspot built into the closet, making connectivity seamless and fast.
We even tested it with a Microsoft Teams meeting, and the connection was flawless. If you need to work remotely or just want to stream your favorite shows, this ship’s Wi-Fi is top-tier.
5. Touchless Technology & USB-C Plugs 
Touchless doors & beverage dispensers – No need to push buttons! Just wave your hand, and doors open, or coffee and drinks dispense like magic.
USB-C ports everywhere – In the rooms, by the bed, and even around the ship. As people who work remotely while cruising, this was a huge win for us!
6. The Destination Elevators
One of the best innovations we experienced was the destination elevator system. Instead of pushing a button and hoping an elevator arrives, you select your floor first, and the system tells you exactly which elevator to wait for.
The result? Less waiting, less crowding, and faster rides.
7. Smokefree Casino & Improved Ventilation 
We don’t typically spend much time in casinos, mainly because of the smoke, but Utopia of the Seas has a dedicated smoke-free casino! Even in the main casino, the ventilation system was excellent, making it one of the freshest-smelling casino experiences we’ve had.
8. Updated, Vibrant Decor 
We absolutely loved the modern, refreshed color schemes throughout the ship. Gone are the dated gold and burgundy tones—instead, Utopia is filled with bright oranges, pinks, yellows, and greens, similar to Odyssey of the Seas. It just makes everything feel fresh, vibrant, and inviting.
What We Didn’t Love So Much 
1. Limited Cruise Lengths
Utopia of the Seas currently only sails 3- and 4-day itineraries, which is just not enough time to experience everything this amazing ship has to offer. For first-time cruisers or weekend getaway travelers, it might be perfect, but for us, 7–10 days is our sweet spot.
2. No Pre-Boarding Show Reservations 
Unlike other Oasis-class ships, we weren’t able to pre-book entertainment before boarding. Instead, you could only make reservations once connected to the ship’s Wi-Fi.
Since we boarded at 2 PM, all the shows were already fully booked! Luckily, there was a standby line, and we managed to get in, but it would be nice to have advance reservations back.
3. No Specialty Coffee at Park Café 
This was a big letdown. Central Park was close to our room, so it would’ve been perfect to grab a specialty coffee in the morning. Unfortunately, they only had regular drip coffee. If you wanted a latte or cappuccino, you had to walk to the Windjammer or Promenade.
4. Not Enough Time for Specialty Restaurants 
Utopia of the Seas has so many amazing dining options, including Hooked, The Mason Jar, and other specialty restaurants, but on a 4-day cruise, there just wasn’t enough time to try them all.
5. Music Hall Disappointment 
We were excited that Utopia had a Music Hall, but in reality, it felt more like a renamed Dazzles rather than the full-fledged venue we loved on Odyssey of the Seas.
6. Fewer Windows in the Windjammer 
We love eating with a view, but the Windjammer buffet lacked panoramic windows, especially at the back of the ship.
7. No Vitality Café 
We always look forward to grabbing a smoothie after a workout at the gym, but Utopia didn’t have a Vitality Café. A big disappointment for wellness-focused cruisers like us!
Final Thoughts
Overall, Utopia of the Seas was an incredible ship with so much to offer. The entertainment, technology, and energy were outstanding, but the short cruise length left us wanting more. If you’re considering this ship for a weekend escape or a quick getaway, it’s perfect. But if you prefer a more relaxed, extended cruise experience, you may want to opt for a longer itinerary on a different ship.
Would we sail Utopia again? Absolutely! But we’ll be crossing our fingers for longer sailings in the future.
