Prepping for Hideaway Beach

Access to Hideaway Beach isn’t included in your regular Coco Cay experience—you’ll need to purchase an excursion pass. At $50 per person, it’s an investment, but we found it worth the price. Pro tip: book it in advance online for a discount.

As soon as we arrived at the island, we were whisked away on a dedicated shuttle that takes you directly to the gated Hideaway Beach area. Scanning our SeaPass cards at the entrance felt like stepping into a private club, setting the tone for a special day.

First Impressions: Serenity Everywhere

We were immediately struck by how peaceful it felt compared to the rest of Coco Cay. Rows of lounge chairs stretched out along the lagoon, with not a soul in sight early in the morning. It felt like we had the entire place to ourselves—a dream for those who prefer a quieter atmosphere.

We later learned that this wasn’t just luck; attendance was lower than usual on our visit. Hideaway Beach has a maximum capacity of 1,600 guests but typically hosts around 1,000. On our day, only 833 adults were booked, leaving the area at about 50% capacity.

Starting the Day at the Lagoon

Our first stop was the lagoon, a calm and inviting stretch of water surrounded by palm trees and tropical plants. Initially, we thought we’d spend most of our day here, lounging in the sun and dipping in and out of the water.

However, after testing the temperature (a little chilly for our taste), we decided to explore further. Just beyond the lagoon, we discovered a charming area with hammocks and a swing. This instantly became a favorite spot.

The swing brought out our inner kids! It was a simple joy, swaying under the sun and feeling the breeze. With hammocks nearby and the sounds of the waves in the distance, this area is perfect for unwinding.

The Cabanas: A Taste of Luxury

As we continued exploring, we noticed the private cabanas tucked away near the lagoon. These premium rentals come with their own splash pools and exclusive amenities. While they looked amazing, the price tag was steep—so much so that renting one could cost as much as another cruise!

Instead, we admired them from a distance and decided to stick with the perks included in our standard admission. Thankfully, there were plenty of other areas to enjoy without feeling like we were missing out.

The Heated Pool: A Must-See

One of the standout features of Hideaway Beach is its massive heated pool, the largest of its kind in the Bahamas. Stretching out with an infinity edge that overlooks both the lagoon and the ocean, this pool is a true centerpiece.

We loved lounging by the pool’s edge, soaking up the serene views. As the day progressed, the vibe shifted, transforming into a lively scene with a DJ setting the mood. The pool’s size was perfect for accommodating the growing crowd without feeling cramped.

Shaded structures and the swim-up bar were fantastic touches, offering spots to cool off and grab a drink.

Unique Dining Options

The food at Hideaway Beach is a step up from the usual Coco Cay offerings. For lunch, we tried pizza, empanadas, coconut shrimp, mozzarella sticks, and even a fish sandwich. Everything was fresh and delicious, with the empanadas being a surprising favorite.

The best part? Drinks and food service are seamless. Staff deliver drinks directly to your lounge chair, and your drink packages and loyalty perks carry over to this area.

Bars and Lounges: Something for Everyone

Hideaway Beach features several bars, each with its own vibe. The swim-up bar was a hit for those looking to socialize, while the On the Rocks bar offered a more laid-back atmosphere. Tucked away with stunning views of the ocean, this spot never felt crowded and became one of our favorite places to relax.

Finding the Perfect Spot

After wandering around and trying a few areas, we found our ideal spot under the shade of tropical plants and palm trees. This quieter section offered a mix of sun and shade, with plenty of space to stretch out and relax.

One thing we appreciated was the abundance of seating options. Whether you wanted a sunny lounger by the pool or a shaded spot under the trees, there was something for everyone.

The Afternoon Vibe: From Calm to Party

While the morning started off serene, the vibe shifted in the afternoon. As more people arrived, the energy picked up, drinks flowed, and the DJ turned up the music. By mid-afternoon, it felt like a lively beach club.

We didn’t mind the change in energy—it was fun to see everyone enjoying themselves—but if you prefer peace and quiet, getting there early is key.

Final Thoughts: Is Hideaway Beach Worth It?

For us, Hideaway Beach was a fantastic experience. It offered a peaceful escape from the main island, with enough amenities and activities to keep us entertained all day. The heated pool alone made it worth the price, and the overall vibe—adults-only, uncrowded, and luxurious—was exactly what we were looking for.

That said, the experience will vary depending on what you’re seeking. If you’re after a party atmosphere, the afternoon energy is perfect. If you prefer tranquility, the morning hours are your best bet.
