Embarking on a voyage aboard Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas is an experience that combines luxury, adventure, and unparalleled ocean vistas. At the pinnacle of the ship, Deck 13 houses the Vortex Nightclub, formerly known as the Viking Crown Lounge. This venue offers panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, providing breathtaking views of the open sea. While we don’t frequent the nightclub often, its ambiance is undeniably captivating.
Adjacent to the Vortex, you’ll find two exclusive lounges: the Crown Lounge for Diamond members and above, and the Suite Lounge for suite guests. Although we didn’t have suite access on this trip, these lounges are known for their serene atmosphere, complimentary cookies, snacks, and beverages—a perfect retreat for relaxation.
Deck 12: Fitness Center and Outdoor Activities
Descending to Deck 12, we begin at the ship’s bow, where the state-of-the-art fitness center is located. The gym is spacious, well-lit, and equipped with a variety of machines to cater to all fitness levels. During our cruise, I utilized the gym frequently and appreciated the ample space and natural lighting. The central area hosts various fitness classes, and post-workout, you can easily access the outer deck to cool down while enjoying the sea breeze.
Radiance-class ships like Serenade of the Seas feature multi-level areas at the front, allowing guests to explore different vantage points. On this particular day, docked in Costa Maya, the views were exceptional. From these elevated decks, you can observe neighboring ships and the expansive ocean horizon.
Moving aft, Deck 12 offers a range of outdoor activities. The Sky Bar overlooks the main pool area, providing a convenient spot to enjoy a refreshing drink while watching poolside activities. The family-friendly zone includes a dedicated children’s pool with a fun slide—the only one on the ship—ensuring younger cruisers have their own space to splash and play.
For those seeking entertainment, the arcade is a popular spot, featuring games suitable for all ages. Nearby, the sports court hosts basketball and other activities, while the well-designed miniature golf course offers a fun challenge with stunning ocean views as a backdrop.
Deck 11: Spa, Solarium, and Dining
Deck 11 is a hub of relaxation and dining. The Vitality Spa offers a range of treatments designed to rejuvenate the body and mind. During this cruise, I indulged in a soothing massage, which was a highlight of my trip. The spa also features a hair salon and various treatment rooms, all with serene waiting areas that boast ocean views, enhancing the overall experience.
Adjacent to the spa is the Solarium, an adults-only retreat featuring a tranquil pool and hot tubs. The area is adorned with elegant décor, including two impressive elephant statues, creating a peaceful ambiance. We spent several afternoons here, appreciating the calm environment and the convenience of the nearby bar, which serves a selection of beverages.
For dining, the Solarium Bistro offers a variety of options. In the mornings, guests can enjoy a continental breakfast with items like English muffin egg sandwiches. Throughout the day, the bistro serves salads, fruits, sandwiches, and pizza, providing a lighter alternative to the main dining venues.
The main pool deck on Deck 11 features another pool and additional hot tubs. Despite Serenade of the Seas being smaller than some of Royal Caribbean’s newer ships, the pool areas never felt overcrowded during our voyage. The relaxed atmosphere made it easy to unwind and enjoy the sunshine.
At the aft of Deck 11, the Windjammer Café serves as the ship’s primary buffet. We particularly enjoyed the seating area at the rear, which offers comfortable chairs and stunning aft views—arguably the best spot to dine while gazing at the ship’s wake. The buffet features diverse culinary stations, and we were often tempted by the dessert selections, including impressive cakes and chocolate-covered treats.
Decks 10 to 7: Staterooms and Public Spaces
Decks 10 through 7 primarily consist of staterooms, offering a range of accommodations to suit different preferences and budgets. Whether you’re seeking an interior room, an ocean-view stateroom, or a luxurious suite, these decks provide comfortable and well-appointed options.
On Deck 7, there’s a small public space known as the RC Online, the ship’s internet café. This area provides computer stations for guests who wish to stay connected or check emails during their voyage. Overlooking the Centrum, it’s a quiet spot with a pleasant view, making it a nice place to catch up on some work or simply relax.
Deck 6: Entertainment and Shopping
Deck 6 offers a variety of entertainment and shopping options. The upper level of the Main Theater provides excellent vantage points for the ship’s live performances, ensuring that every seat offers a great view of the stage. We attended several shows during our cruise and were impressed by the talent and production quality.
For movie enthusiasts, the ship features a dedicated cinema showing a selection of films throughout the cruise. It’s a cozy venue, perfect for enjoying a movie on a sea day or in the evening after dinner.
Adjacent to the theatre, Casino Royale offers a vibrant atmosphere for those looking to test their luck, featuring a variety of gaming options including slot machines, poker tables, blackjack, and roulette. The nautically themed Schooner Bar provides a cozy setting to unwind with a signature cocktail or classic drink, often accompanied by live piano music in the evenings, creating a relaxed ambiance perfect for socializing or quiet reflection.
The Royal Caribbean Online area offers internet access for guests needing to stay connected. Additionally, the ship’s shopping promenade features a range of boutiques offering jewelry, apparel, and souvenirs. We enjoyed browsing the shops and found the staff to be friendly and accommodating.
Deck 5: Dining and Lounges
As you continue your journey aboard the Serenade of the Seas, Deck 5 offers a delightful blend of dining, entertainment, and relaxation venues. At the forward section, the Tropical Theatre’s balcony level provides an intimate vantage point for enjoying dynamic productions reminiscent of Broadway and Las Vegas. Adjacent to the theatre, the Conference Center accommodates up to 100 guests, making it an ideal space for events ranging from business seminars to group meetings, all equipped with modern presentation tools.
Strolling along the full-circle Promenade Deck, you’ll experience the refreshing ocean breeze and captivating views, with sections featuring overhead lifeboats and dramatic glass walls enhancing your walk. Central to Deck 5 is the multi-level Centrum, a vibrant atrium hosting live music, dance performances, and various events, all accessible via panoramic elevators. Encircling the Centrum, a variety of shops and boutiques await, offering everything from designer apparel to unique souvenirs.
Art enthusiasts will appreciate the onboard gallery’s curated selection of artworks available for purchase, while the photo studio provides professional services to capture your memorable moments. For any inquiries or assistance during your voyage, the centrally located Guest Services desk is ready to help. Nearby, the Shore Excursions desk offers information and booking services for diverse port adventures, ensuring you make the most of each destination.
Deck 4: More Dining and Entertainment

At the forefront, the impressive Tropical Theatre serves as the ship’s main show lounge, seating up to 915 guests for grand musical productions, cabaret performances, and acrobatic shows. With two stage productions each evening, scheduled to align with main dining room sittings, guests can enjoy performances at 8 pm and 10 pm, complemented by bar service and attentive waitstaff.
The heart of the ship, the Centrum, is also accessible from Deck 4. This open atrium spans several decks and serves as a central gathering place, hosting various activities, live music performances, and entertainment events throughout the day and into the evening, making it a bustling hub of activity. Guests sensitive to noise may want to consider this when selecting their stateroom.
