On one of our recent Royal Caribbean cruises, we managed to earn two free cruises through the ship’s casino. Yes, two! We’re part of Royal Caribbean’s Casino Royale program, and on our most recent transatlantic sailing aboard Explorer of the Seas, we earned not one but two instant reward cruises. Here’s exactly how we did it.

Before diving into our story, let’s quickly recap how the Casino Royale rewards work. There are three main ways to earn free or discounted cruises through Royal Caribbean:

These are the most exciting because you can earn them right during your current cruise. Every time you play in the casino and earn points, you’re getting closer to an “instant reward” — a cruise voucher that can be redeemed right on the ship.
Each sailing has different thresholds and reward levels. For example, on our cruise, if you earned:
400 points, you could claim a free cruise for one person on certain itineraries
600 points, you’d unlock a higher-level cruise
800+ points, even better itineraries or room upgrades
Planning Before Playing
Our journey started not at the slot machines, but at the Casino Host Desk. The very first thing we did was scan the Instant Rewards QR code to see which cruises were available for each point level.

Savings: About $338 compared to retail price ($1,623)
Not bad at all for something we earned while having fun at sea. And those 800 points also move him closer to Prime status, which will unlock even better rewards next time.
Crystal’s Casino Journey – 600 Points and a 7-Day Cruise Deal
Crystal took a slightly different approach. Her goal was more modest — to reach 600 points without exceeding her set budget.
Here’s how that worked out:
Points earned: 600
Casino spend: $374 total (about $31/day)
Reward: Free 7-day cruise on a Vision-class ship (outside-view cabin upgrade for about $20)
Out-of-pocket cost: $1,044.40
Savings: Roughly $400 compared to retail pricing of $1,446
Not bad at all! Plus, Crystal’s points also contribute toward Prime status, putting us both on track to hit that milestone soon.
How to Claim Your Instant Rewards
Once you reach your point goal, the process to claim your instant reward is super easy:
Visit the Casino Host Desk. Tell them you think you’ve earned a reward.
They’ll swipe your card and verify your points.
If you’ve hit the threshold, they’ll print your instant reward certificate right there.
You can either book your cruise at the NextCruise desk onboard or use the Royal Caribbean app to place a $200 deposit.
Once home, call Casino Royale to connect your instant reward with your reservation.
We love that this process gives you something in hand right away — no waiting for emails or worrying about offers disappearing.
Tips for Playing (and Winning) the Smart Way
