Full Freedom of the Seas Ship Tour: Exploring Royal Caribbean’s Iconic Vessel Deck by Deck

Come along as we take you deck-by-deck, top-to-bottom, showing you exactly what makes Freedom of the Seas such a beloved ship.

Deck 14 – Iconic Views and the Viking Crown Lounge

We begin at the very top. Deck 14 is home to one of our favorite classic Royal Caribbean venues: the Viking Crown Lounge. Anyone who has cruised on the older classes of ships knows exactly what we mean when we say this space is iconic. The curved walls of glass offer sweeping panoramic views, and during the day it’s one of the most peaceful spots onboard. We love coming up here with a book or a puzzle or just soaking in the sunlit calmness with nothing but the ocean stretching out before us.

At night, the lounge transforms into a completely different personality. The lighting changes, the music starts, and the entire space becomes a vibrant nighttime venue. Whether you want to dance, grab a cocktail, or just enjoy being out at sea after dark, it’s a fun and elegant place to unwind.

Just next door, the Crown Lounge for Diamond and above guests provides an additional retreat stocked with snacks, drinks, and comfortable seating. One of the things that makes this particular lounge stand out is the outdoor terrace, a feature not found on every ship in the fleet. Being able to sit outside with a drink, away from crowds and noise, makes this lounge feel especially luxurious—even if you’re not staying in a suite.

Speaking of suites, the Suite Lounge is also located on Deck 14, reserved for Pinnacle Club members and guests booked in suites. It’s a quiet, private space with its own set of perks. Not us this time—but it’s always fun to dream!

Deck 13 – Fun, Fitness, and Nonstop Action

Deck 13 is all about movement and excitement. As soon as you step outside, the energy changes. This is where guests come to compete, to play, and to enjoy some of Royal Caribbean’s signature outdoor attractions.

The Sports Court is the heart of the action. By morning, you’ll often find pickleball games underway—one of the fastest-growing and most popular activities at sea. But the court is versatile: the hoops come down for basketball, the nets get rearranged for soccer, and friendly competitions fill the schedule.

Just beyond the court sits the FlowRider surf simulator, where brave passengers attempt to surf or bodyboard while the rest of us watch with equal parts encouragement and amusement. The FlowRider is endlessly entertaining—even if you’re just observing from the sidelines.

During the refurbishment, Freedom gained a pair of colorful water slides that twist above the deck, adding another layer of fun that wasn’t part of her original design. These slides completely change the look and feel of the upper decks and bring Freedom right in line with the newer, flashier ships in the fleet.

And of course, Freedom’s rock climbing wall remains one of the largest and most impressive versions at sea—a calling card of Royal Caribbean’s adventure-centered spirit.

Deck 12 – Spa Serenity and Hidden Escape Spaces

Deck 12 is one of the most versatile decks onboard, stretching from bow to stern and offering everything from relaxation to recreation.

Walking into the Vitality Spa feels like stepping into a different world. Soft music, dimmed lights, and the subtle scent of aromatherapy instantly transport you into vacation mode. The spa is lined with treatment rooms, each tucked away behind quiet corridors. Whether you’re getting a massage, facial, or body treatment, the spa feels serene and inviting. The relaxation room, where you fill out paperwork and settle in before your service, provides infused water and comfortable seating to set the tone.

Next to the spa is a full-service salon, offering haircuts, blowouts, manicures, pedicures, and more. It’s great for a pre-formal-night glow-up—or anytime you want a little pampering.

One of the best-kept secrets on Deck 12 is the forward sun deck. It’s tucked away enough that even on busy sea days, it’s surprisingly quiet. There are patches of shade and sun, and it’s the perfect spot to escape when the main pool deck feels too busy. We’ve spent some wonderfully peaceful moments here just listening to the ocean.

The mini golf course also lives on Deck 12, positioned beautifully at the very front of the ship. It’s spacious, colorful, and somehow still overlooked by many passengers, making it a fun surprise to discover.

As you walk aft, you’ll also find the jogging track, which circles the ship and becomes especially lively in the early mornings. Freedom also introduced cassitas, small shaded cabanas you can book ahead of time, and free clamshell loungers, which are first-come, first-served.

And tucked along the midsection of the deck is Johnny Rockets, offering both indoor diner-style seating and outdoor tables with ocean views. It’s nostalgic, fun, and perfect for a casual meal.

Deck 11 – Pools, Solarium, Dining, and the Fitness Center

Deck 11 is where the heartbeat of Freedom of the Seas lives. From sunrise workouts to late-night swims, it’s a vibrant, bustling area full of activity.

Start with the Fitness Center, which impressed us with its size and layout. Even at peak times, finding a machine was rarely a challenge. There are rows of treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, free weights, cable machines, and even rowing machines—all arranged with great ocean views to keep you motivated.

A highlight of Deck 11 is the Solarium, the adults-only oasis. It’s designed for relaxation, featuring cushioned loungers, gentle music, and a quiet atmosphere. The pool area is partly shaded and partly sunny, so you can enjoy the space no matter your preference. And only steps away sits a bar, making this a convenient escape for adults seeking tranquility.

The cantilevered hot tubs—which extend over the sides of the ship—are truly magical. Whether you’re gazing out at the open sea or stargazing at night, these hot tubs offer one of the most memorable views onboard.

Nearby is the lively main pool deck, with two large pools, multiple hot tubs, and a central walkway where crew lead dance classes, stretching sessions, and themed activities. It’s classic Royal Caribbean: colorful, fun, and full of energy.

For families, Freedom’s kids’ water area is a hit. Bright, playful, and well-designed, it gives younger cruisers their own splash-friendly retreat.

Dining options on Deck 11 include the Windjammer Café, the ship’s main buffet. The buffet is spread out into pods, making it easy to navigate even when busy. Breakfast offers everything from omelet stations to pastries to fresh fruit—and we have to mention the updated cinnamon roll recipe, which gets rave reviews from both of us.

Near the aft end of the deck you’ll find:

• Giovanni’s (Italian specialties)

• Chops Grille (a beloved steakhouse)

And one of our absolute favorites:

• El Loco Fresh, serving quick and tasty Mexican food. It’s not the largest El Loco Fresh at sea, but it’s still a fantastic addition to the ship.

The deck is tied together beautifully with the bright, tropical Lime & Coconut Bar, part of the ship’s décor refresh. Its vibrant colors instantly put you in vacation mode.

Deck 5 – Promenade Life, Entertainment, and More Dining

Descending from the stateroom decks brings you to the lively hub of Deck 5: the Royal Promenade.

Before you enter the promenade, you’ll come across the Star Lounge, a multipurpose venue with plush seating, great acoustics, and a cozy bar at the back. It hosts everything from trivia to game shows to special events.

Nearby, the Library and Card Room offers a retreat for readers and board-game fans alike. It’s a peaceful, lovely space with big windows—a rare quiet corner in the middle of the ship.

Once you step into the Royal Promenade, you’re transported into a bustling indoor “street” lined with shops, dining options, and bars. You’ll find:

• Sorrento’s, serving fresh pizza throughout the day

• Sugar Beach, the ship’s candy and ice cream shop

• A completely separate smoke-free casino, something we appreciated

• English Pub, perfect for late-night drinks or sodas

• Café Promenade, offering sandwiches, desserts, teas, and specialty coffees

• Boutiques, jewelry stores, and Royal Caribbean’s NextCruise desk

You’ll even notice stateroom windows overlooking the Promenade—some of the most unique cabin views at sea.

The atmosphere here comes alive at night with parades, balloon drops, and street-style performances. It truly feels like the ship’s central gathering space.

At the far end you’ll find the elegant R Bar, serving classic cocktails in a beautifully updated setting.

Main Dining Room – Three Levels of Classic Elegance

Freedom’s three-story main dining room is breathtaking in its grandeur. With its gold columns, sweeping staircases, and sparkling chandelier, it feels like stepping back into the glamorous heyday of ocean liners.

Each level offers a different perspective, but Deck 4 in particular features stunning floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light. The mid-level landing also houses the intimate Chef’s Table experience, positioned to overlook the whole dining room.

During this sailing, we had a window seat, and it made our dinners even more memorable—especially with the incredible group of table neighbors we enjoyed every night.

Deck 4 – Casinos, Bars, Izumi, Theater and More

Deck 4 packs a lot into its midsection. You’ll find the balcony level of the main theater, which hosts some truly outstanding Royal Caribbean productions. Even after seeing the same show multiple times over various sailings, we still find ourselves amazed.

Just outside the theater is Izumi, offering a full hibachi dining experience. It’s lively, interactive, and always a hit for guests who enjoy teppanyaki-style meals.

Across from Izumi sits the Schooner Bar, a beloved venue across the fleet. It was consistently busy during our sailing and has a warm, nautical charm that grows on you the more time you spend there.

Deck 4 also houses the ship’s large casino, where smoking is allowed—hence why we preferred the smoke-free casino upstairs. But for those who enjoy gaming, this is the primary casino onboard.

Continuing aft brings you into Playmakers Sports Bar, another fabulous addition that came with the refurbishments. With wall-to-wall TVs, this is a sports lover’s dream.

Just beyond Playmakers is Boleros, the energetic Latin music venue where guests often end the night with live salsa, merengue, and dancing.

Deck 3 – Dining Room Entrance, Art Gallery, and Photo Center

On Deck 3, you’ll find the lower level of the main dining room, the art gallery, and a fully staffed photo gallery. Being able to view your photos on large screens with help from crew members is a nice throwback compared to app-only systems on some ships.

Studio B – Ice Shows and Entertainment

Finally, we wrap up the tour at Studio B, home to Freedom’s ice skating rink. Royal Caribbean’s ice shows are consistently some of the best entertainment at sea, and Freedom’s show is one we’ve seen several times but still love every time.

The venue also hosts open skating sessions and themed events, making it a unique multi-use space.

Final Thoughts: Why Freedom Still Has Our Hearts

Freedom of the Seas is a ship with history, charm, and an incredible spirit of fun. Every time we sail her, we’re reminded of why she remains one of our favorite ships in the entire Royal Caribbean fleet.

She strikes the perfect balance—big enough to offer endless entertainment, yet intimate enough to feel warm and familiar. Her refurbishments bring modern experiences without losing that original Royal Caribbean soul we’ve always loved.
